about me.
my name is julio jijon jarquin, and i am currently pursuing a bachelor's in computer science at berea college, where i have maintained a 3.7 gpa and earned recognition on the dean's list. before berea, i completed my associate's in computer science at walters state community college, where i graduated summa cum laude and was honored on both the president's list and dean's list and became a member of phi theta kappa. education has always been important to me, not just for the academic recognition but also for the opportunities to grow, connect, and challenge myself. at berea, i am also active outside the classroom as the treasurer of colorstack, an organization that supports students of color in tech, and as part of my college's futsal team, where we became champions in spring 2025.
my professional experiences have helped me shape my skills as both a problem solver and collaborator. as a teaching assistant for software design and implementation, i support over 30 students each semester by explaining core concepts in object-oriented programming and python. i lead office hours, design extra learning materials, and help students troubleshoot challenging bugs, which has deepened both my teaching ability and technical confidence. i also had the chance to work as a software engineer intern, where i contributed to full-stack development using html, css, javascript, bootstrap, and python. in that role, i closed issues, improved user experiences, and worked with git and docker to manage code effectively. earlier on, i gained experience as a student it support specialist, where i managed hardware and software resources, solved technical problems for faculty and staff, and built a foundation in troubleshooting and it management.
outside of work and classes, i enjoy taking on creative projects that combine my technical knowledge with my love for music. i've built several applications, including piano learning tools in c# and python and a synthesizer in c++ using the juce framework. these projects allow me to explore how technology can connect to creativity, education, and personal expression.
i consider myself someone who is constantly curious and eager to learn. i am fluent in both english and spanish, which helps me connect with a wider range of communities. i am drawn to opportunities that allow me to both build and teach, because i value collaboration as much as individual growth. looking ahead, my goal is to continue developing as a software engineer, while also exploring how i can bring together different areas of my life, like technology, music, and mentorship, to create meaningful work that has both impact and creativity at its core.
